Review | Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua

For a long time now, I’ve wondered if there is any real difference between the high street brands and high end brands when it comes to foundation. Other than colour, I questioned why people bought high end foundation – it is so much more expensive than its high street peers, can it justify the price?? My curiosity got the better of me and after hearing lots and lots of beauty folk rave about the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua I thought I’d give it a go too.

I’m not one for a heavy coverage foundation – I feel like my skin can’t breath with a heavy foundation on, so I was keen to get a light to medium coverage. The Vitalumiere Aqua has wonderful coverage. It’s very light and gives you that ‘yeah my skin is just this perfect’ look – the look I try to achieve with my foundation! The formula is also very thin – you MUST shake the bottle before you apply it! But the thin consistency makes the foundation feel very light and sheer on your skin – it feels like you’re not wearing anything at all, its beautiful.

As for whether there is a real difference between high street and high end? I can definitely feel a difference in quality in the Chanel – the foundation just feels a better formula, it lasts longer on my skin, gives a better look to my skin. In short, I love it! Aside from this foundation, I have tried the Mac Studio Finish Fluid (also brilliant!) and that has a similar feel of quality to it – I just get impeccable skin when wearing them which is the only thing I’m really looking for in a foundation.

That is not to say that I don’t like or won’t continue to wear high street foundation. Regular readers will be aware of my love for Rimmel’s Wake Me Up Foundation (as I don’t stop banging on about it) and as an every day base it is perfect. But when I want that perfected look I will go for the high end everytime!

What do you think of high end foundations? Which is your favourite? Leave links and comments below!

  1. As an older woman, i will never use high street foundations because some of the ingredients are not beneficial to older skin. I deffo think you can get away with using them when you are younger and line free.
