Today I want to talk about blush, possibly the most underrated of make-up products. For the longest time I didn’t really use it, or I just used a bit of bronzer instead (my faithful NARS Laguna). I have a naturally pink complexion and that combined with years of being a shy, blushing child made me reluctant to voluntarily make my cheeks pink!
As I started experimenting with more make-up, I started wearing lots of bold lipsticks (bare with me): bright oranges, deep purples, bold reds. And whilst scouring the internet for the next cool look it was make-up icon extraordinaire Lisa Eldridge who revealed a top tip in one of her videos about blush: if you wear a bright or bold lipstick you need to wear blusher. I was so shocked, but it made absolutely perfect sense: without blusher, you will look gaunt, washed out, and ill (if that is the look you’re going for, great!).
So in my search for blushers I landed at the Sleek counter in Boots and that’s what I want to talk about today because they are simply fantastic. At only £4.99 each (or grab the palettes with three colours in for £9.99) the quality of the product is incredible: beautifully pigmented, they rival high end brands. Sleek’s Rose Gold is an excellent dupe for NARS Orgasm. The packaging is slim and small, perfect for make-up bags. They also come with big mirrors in the top, major plus points in my eyes!
The Californ.I.A cream palette is one of my favourites, and the blushes I grab in winter. When I want a little bit of soft focus glow, to perk my skin up on cold days. The powder blushes in Coral and Rose Gold are what I opt for, well, most of the time, especially the former. The pigmentation is brilliant, it looks like I’ve barely touched them!
The range comes in ten powder shades, and the palettes change regularly, so there’s a shade for everyone. Be sure to drop into your local drugstore to give them a look, especially if you’re a fan of the old bold lip!
What’s your favourite blush brand? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
