Make-up for work

I don’t know about you but I am terrible at getting up in the mornings. I mean TERRIBLE! I am most definitely a night owl. Those larks can bugger off in the early hours!

As it takes me three alarms to get up in the mornings I am often pressed for time when getting ready for work. I’m not one of these girls who can manage my make-up on the tube to work, I seriously admire all those that can! So for me I have to be ready as I run out the door and here is my look – it’s quick, simple and looks like I’ve spent at least 3x as long on it as I actually have.

So this is my general face attire for work:

And here are the products I use:

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel foundation – Beautiful foundation which lasts all day. I use this as an everyday foundation when I don’t want a glowy finish which I get from the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation
Rimmel Stay Matte powder – The BEST powder ever. Fact. Very battered and well loved.
Wake Me Up concealer – Super high coverage. Makes me look awake!
NARS Laguna Bronzer and Deep Throat Blush duo – My favourite item of my make up collection by a mile. Adds a touch of colour and makes me look healthy and ready to face the day. The duo was a limited edition but you can buy both colours on their own.
Urban Decay Primer Potion – I use this everyday, without fail. Makes my eyeshadow stay put all day.
Mac eyeshadows in Patina, Mystery and Omega – Patina over the lid, Mystery along the lash line. Omega through the eyebrows.
Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara – My favourite mascara ever. Ever. Makes your lashes look massive with one fell swoop.
Revlon Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya – Moisturising, sheer and a beautiful colour, I love it.

What’s amazing is you can slap these products on in a flash, they’re easy to work with and are quite lenient if you aren’t quite awake when applying them!

What do you wear for work everyday? Are you as hopeless as I am at getting up in the morning?? Leave links and comments below!

Review | Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua

For a long time now, I’ve wondered if there is any real difference between the high street brands and high end brands when it comes to foundation. Other than colour, I questioned why people bought high end foundation – it is so much more expensive than its high street peers, can it justify the price?? My curiosity got the better of me and after hearing lots and lots of beauty folk rave about the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua I thought I’d give it a go too.

I’m not one for a heavy coverage foundation – I feel like my skin can’t breath with a heavy foundation on, so I was keen to get a light to medium coverage. The Vitalumiere Aqua has wonderful coverage. It’s very light and gives you that ‘yeah my skin is just this perfect’ look – the look I try to achieve with my foundation! The formula is also very thin – you MUST shake the bottle before you apply it! But the thin consistency makes the foundation feel very light and sheer on your skin – it feels like you’re not wearing anything at all, its beautiful.

As for whether there is a real difference between high street and high end? I can definitely feel a difference in quality in the Chanel – the foundation just feels a better formula, it lasts longer on my skin, gives a better look to my skin. In short, I love it! Aside from this foundation, I have tried the Mac Studio Finish Fluid (also brilliant!) and that has a similar feel of quality to it – I just get impeccable skin when wearing them which is the only thing I’m really looking for in a foundation.

That is not to say that I don’t like or won’t continue to wear high street foundation. Regular readers will be aware of my love for Rimmel’s Wake Me Up Foundation (as I don’t stop banging on about it) and as an every day base it is perfect. But when I want that perfected look I will go for the high end everytime!

My Mac palette

IMG_07699999

I simply adore Mac eyeshadows. I consider them the best eyeshadows around – they are beautifully pigmented, come in the most fantastic colours and generally look stunning! I have pretty oily eyelids so I use Urban Decay Primer Potion as a base (which is incredible by the way!)

But back to Mac, I finished my first eyeshadow palette the other day so I thought I’d share with you all my satisfaction, pride and the beauty of the thing.

Most of the palette is fairly neutral, focusing on the golden-brown and plum-pink shades of neutral!

Top row (l-r): Phloof!, Grain, Naked Lunch, Arena, Omega Middle row (l-r): Patina, Woodwinked, Mulch, Sable, Antiqued Bottom row (l-r): Mystery, Club, Cranberry, Sketch, Carbon

Top row (l-r): Phloof!, Grain, Naked Lunch, Arena, Omega
Middle row (l-r): Patina, Woodwinked, Mulch, Sable, Antiqued
Bottom row (l-r): Mystery, Club, Cranberry, Sketch, Carbon

As you can tell, Naked Lunch is well loved! I wear it all over the lid with either Cranberry or Sable in the crease. Woodwinked was my very first Mac eyeshadow and I love it dearly, I wear it on its own and as you work the eyeshadow into the crease it almost changes colour into a deep orange/rust colour which compliments the shimmery gold over the lid. A brilliant eyeshadow!

Omega is for my eyebrows and Phloof! is my inner eye and brow bone highlight.
I use Grain, Patina and Arena as everyday colours with Mystery, Mulch or Antiqued in the crease if I want to give more depth. Sable and Antiqued are great all over the lid colours to make my blue eyes really stand out. Club and Sketch are stunning and I often wear them when going out for a more dramatic look.

Mystery and Carbon are great for smokey eyes and brilliant used as eyeliners, they give a much softer finish which I love!

Basically I love them all and I use them all (which is probably more important). As I’ve got older I’ve realised that paying for quality products is much more worthwhile and though these eyeshadows are not cheap they are such good quality that I don’t mind paying a bit extra.

I hope you like my palette! What do you think of Mac eyeshadows? Do you love them as much as I do? Leave me links and comments below as I’d love to see your palettes!
